FOSTER TO ADOPT
MARLI, FEMALE LABRADOODLE

CURRENT LOCATION: PENRITH

CARING FOSTER HOME NEEDED (LEADING TO ADOPTION FOLLOWING A PERIOD OF ASSESSMENT)

for Marli, a19 month old female UNSPAYED standard labradoodle (standard poodle/labrador x)
weight approx 28kg
Current location: PENRITH

NOTE: We are hoping that foster will lead to adoption to avoid further upheaval for this very sensitive beautiful girl (an adoption fee of £350.00 will apply)

It is likely that spay will be delayed (vet advisory) due to Marli's current presentation of significant anxiety. If so, she will be placed for adoption on a neutering contract.

This lovely, loving, sweet and gentle-natured girl is going to require a special foster home. Marli is a gentle, very much loved soul who has had limited exposure to the world due to her owner's health issues and with few visitors to the home. As a result, she is frightened of strangers (if at home, she will hide in the kitchen, if outdoors she will try to hide behind her owner) Marli currently lives with young children and is very good with them, but due to the unavoidable stress of moving her into a new environment, with strangers, we would prefer that any children are secondary age and above, and sensible and calm around dogs. Although it is imperative that her fosterers have prior dog ownership experience, we feel it might be best that Marli is the only dog in her foster home due to her anxiety around other dogs she sees on walks. However, we would consider a home with a calm older non-aggressive dog (resident dogs must be neutered/spayed). Unfortunately, aside from puppy training when she made friends with a little westie, Marli has never had the opportunity to meet or socialise with other dogs and, as a result, she barks and pulls when she sees other dogs. Her owner reports that she is better with smaller dogs. Due to her owner's health, unfortunately Marli has not been walked at all for several months now and she has been restricted to the house and small garden. She is terrified of the vets and owner muzzles her before taking her (we will be working on finding an understanding vet who doesn't force compliance, as her current vet does, whilst she's in foster) BUT she absolutely LOVES her regular visits to the groomer and her owner says she comes out like a different dog, happy with tail wagging - a glimpse of the dog she could be with the right support. Marli is not aggressive (just frightened) and has never bitten.

PLEASE ONLY APPLY TO FOSTER MARLI IF YOU MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA :
- A responsible adult at home much of the time (we will consider work from home provided you have ample time for Marli’s needs)
- Any children/visiting children aged 12 or over and respectful of a dog’s needs- A quietish, calm home environment
- Previous dog ownership experience
- Experience of a lack of socialisation and anxiety in dogs or a willingness to understand and work on supporting Marli with this would be a real bonus
- You must be prepared to work with us and our behavioural adviser to ensure the right training approaches are consistently delivered
- If you shout at this dog (or even raise your voice at her) she WILL fall apart. She is a good girl who responds very well to calm, clearly understood instruction and praise
- Marli is a big strong girl whose owner (who has issues with her hands/arms) is unable to walk her because she will either try to get away from strangers/other dogs or she will bark and pull towards them. You will need to be physically fit and active to foster Marli. Note that we do not use haltis on our dogs. Also note that foster dogs MUST be kept on lead/on a long line at all times when outdoors UNLESS being exercised in a secure dog field (and we will be looking at hiring a suitable field whilst she is in foster)
- A positive, kind, calm and confident approach and a commitment to helping Marli to heal and become the doodle she was meant to be
- A dog free home (this includes any dogs you may look after in the home as Marli cannot tolerate other dogs in her space at all at present)
- Cats may be considered (careful introductions and management will be required)
- You will need to be available to meet and foster Marli without delay
- Please do not apply if you are planning a holiday unless you can take Marli with you. Please consider your plans for Christmas and the New Year, if you are hoping to go on to adopt Marli.
- All family members must be in agreement with fostering Marli and will need to meet with her before foster can be agreed

If you would like to be considered to foster Marli, potentially leading to adoption, please complete the application form via the link below. If we feel you might offer a suitable foster home for Marli an admin will then be in touch to discuss further. If you have not fostered for us before, a home check and references will be required. We provide our fosterers with full support and all costs associated with the care of our foster dogs are met by the charity:

Doodle Rescue is run by a small team of volunteers. We typically receive in excess of 100 applications for available dogs and we regret that we are unable to respond to unsuccessful applicants individually. If your application has been shortlisted to the next stage of our vetting process, or if we require additional information to enable us to fully consider your application, one of our volunteer admin will contact you via Facebook Messenger, by email or by phone/SMS within 3 days of your adoption application form submission. If you do not hear from us within this time frame, regrettably your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion. We endeavour to provide sufficient information in each dog’s adoption bio to give an overview of our assessment of the dog and the required criteria to be considered to adopt the dog, to enable interested parties to assess their suitability before submitting an adoption application. We regret that at this early stage of our vetting processes it is not possible for our volunteer admins to respond to requests for further information on a dog available for adoption since – with limited resources and time - we must prioritise finding the right home for the dog and we are grateful for your understanding in this matter. We regret that we are unable to enter into discussions with unsuccessful applicants or with those who are considering submitting an application but who have not yet done so. Note: due to GDPR we do not retain unsuccessful applications on our system and a new application will need to be submitted for any other available dogs Please be aware that our vetting processes are thorough to ensure the welfare of the dogs and by submitting an application you are agreeing to cooperate with our processes.

EVERY DOG IN OUR CARE IS CAREFULLY ASSESSED AND OUR ASSESSMENTS FORM THE BASIS OF THE CRITERIA TO BE CONSIDERED TO ADOPT THEM. OUR PRIORITY IS THE WELFARE OF THE DOGS AND WE REGRET THAT THE STATED CRITERIA ARE NOT OPEN TO NEGOTIATION.
