HENDRICKS, 3YR 3 MONTH OLD MALE CAVAPOO, APPROX 6 – 7kg

ADOPTION FEE: £380.00

Hendricks is an absolutely delightful little dog, loving, playful and a very quick learner, who loves nothing more than to be close to his family (and walks!) Hendricks came into rescue from a loving home and through no fault of his own. His family circumstances meant that he has missed out on a lot of training and socialisation. Hendricks is in good health, microchipped and up to date with vaccinations and treatments. Hendricks is not yet neutered on vet advice, and he will be placed for adoption on a neutering contract.

Henricks has only ever been left for an hour or so and he can be anxious about being left. He will not suit a home where he will be left regularly or for more than an hour or two every now and then (and only then once he has had a few weeks to settle into his new home). Although he really enjoys his walks, due to a lack of socialisation he can be anxious about some dogs he sees on walks, particularly if they are bigger than him (although he has enjoyed playing with dogs of a similar size) and he will express his discomfort by chewing on his lead and seeking attention and reassurance from his caregiver - this has improved whilst he has been in foster. Because of his anxiety around other dogs, Hendricks needs to be an only dog in the home. Hendricks is not cat tested and introductions to any resident cat(s) will need to be carefully managed. Although Hendricks is good with adults and children he meets, he has only lived in an adult home and we feel it would be best for him if any children are secondary school aged or above (11 years +) and sensible and respectful around dogs. Hendricks is a truly delightful little doodle who needs and deserves to be placed firmly at the heart of a loving family.

To be considered, you will need to be calm, kind experienced dog owners, with an understanding of anxiety in dogs and with the patience to help Hendricks to continue to work on this. Hendricks is unused to being left and he will not suit a home where he will be left regularly or for prolonged periods (work from home is fine as long as you have ample time throughout the day to meet Hendricks needs for rewarding and enriching walks and activities, and play based training, and so long as Hendricks will not be shut away elsewhere in the house whilst you work).

TO BE CONSIDERED TO ADOPT HENDRICKS
(PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE CRITERIA ARE NOT NEGOTIABLE):

* Hendricks has never been left for more than an hour or so and can be anxious when left, and there will need to be someone at home with him in the early weeks, unless you can take Hendricks with you. He will not suit a family where he will be left frequently or for more than a couple of hours.

- Work from home is fine provided you have ample time throughout the day to ensure Hendricks continues to enjoy the walks he loves, as well as for play, training and other stimulating activities. Hendricks cannot be shut away in another room or a crate whilst you work, and if this is an issue for you, please do not apply.

* There will need to be direct access to a fully secure private garden (a home check will be required)

* Hendricks should be walked on lead/on a long training lead until he has had time to bond with you and until you are 100% certain of his recall (training is required)

* Children over 11 years old are fine, provided they are sensible and respectful around dogs (children must be supervised around dogs)

* Although he absolutely loves his walks, Hendricks can be anxious with some dogs he meets on walks, particularly dogs which are bigger than him, although he has enjoyed playing with friendly dogs of a similar size. He expresses his anxiety by chewing on his lead and seeking reassurance/trying to move away from the other dog, and you will need to be prepared to advocate for him with other dog owners at times. Regular hire of a secure dog field for off lead exercise and training should be considered in the early weeks and months, and could also be useful for careful introductions to other trusted dogs he can then meet and play with regularly.

* Hendricks is not cat tested. Introductions to resident cats will need to be carefully managed.

- Training is going well and should be ongoing. Hendricks responds really well to calm direction and positive training techniques. Hendricks requires experienced dog owners with a kind and positive approach to training. He will not cope with being punished or shouted at for “getting it wrong”.

* You will need to be fit and active. Hendricks is a young, fit, energetic dog.

* You should have no holidays planned for the next few months, unless you can take Hendricks with you. Hendricks is not a dog who can be left in kennels. If you cannot take him on holiday with you, you should consider engaging a trusted dog boarder or sitter.

* All family members must be in agreement with adopting Hendricks. You must be in a position to proceed with adopting Hendricks without delay. Hendricks is in foster in Alnwick, Northumberland and all resident family members will be required to travel to meet him prior to adoption being agreed.

HENDRICK IS IN FOSTER IN ALNWICK, NORTHUMBERLAND
ADOPTION FEE: £380.00

Those who know these dogs will know that doodles are highly sensitive dogs which can easily be sent into a “tail spin” if subtle signs of anxiety are missed and if resultant “behaviours” are mishandled. We expect our fosterers and adopters to employ positive, reward based training techniques which these dogs respond well to. We categorically do not support and will not countenance placing any of our dogs in a household which employs aversive, punitive training methods, including, for example, banishment, twisting of the nose or other physical punishments, a slip lead, confinement as punishment, vibrating collar or water spray.

Doodle Rescue is run by a small team of volunteers. We typically receive in excess of 100 applications for available dogs and we regret that we are unable to respond to unsuccessful applicants individually. If your application has been shortlisted to the next stage of our vetting process, or if we require additional information to enable us to fully consider your application, one of our volunteer admin will contact you via Facebook Messenger, by email or by phone/SMS within 3 days of your adoption application form submission. If you do not hear from us within this time frame, regrettably your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion. We endeavour to provide sufficient information in each dog’s adoption bio to give an overview of our assessment of the dog and the required criteria to be considered to adopt the dog, to enable interested parties to assess suitability before submitting an adoption application. We regret that at this early stage of our vetting processes it is not possible for our volunteer admins to respond to requests for further information on a dog available for adoption since – with limited resources and time - we must prioritise finding the right home for the dog and we are grateful for your understanding in this matter. We regret that we are unable to enter into any correspondence with unsuccessful applicants or with those who are considering submitting an application but who have not yet done so. Note: due to GDPR we do not retain unsuccessful applications on our system and a new application will need to be submitted for any other available dogs. Please be aware that our vetting processes are thorough to ensure the welfare of the dogs and by submitting an application you are agreeing to cooperate with our processes. Note: due to GDPR we do not retain unsuccessful applications on our system and a new application will need to be submitted for any other available dog.

EVERY DOG IN OUR CARE IS CAREFULLY ASSESSED AND OUR ASSESSMENTS FORM THE BASIS OF THE CRITERIA TO BE CONSIDERED TO FOSTER OR ADOPT THEM. OUR PRIORITY IS THE WELFARE OF THE DOGS AND WE REGRET THAT THE STATED CRITERIA ARE NOT OPEN TO NEGOTIATION.
