FOSTER HOME REQUIRED

FOSTER HOME REQUIRED

LOCATION: DURHAM
Hendricks, 3yo male cavapoo, approx 6 – 7kg

Hendricks has been surrendered through no fault of his own and he is a very much loved boy. Sadly, a change of circumstances means that his owner will need to return to working full time, and she is no longer able to meet Hendricks’ needs. This has been a very difficult decision for her. Hendricks is in good health, microchipped and up to date with vaccinations and treatments. He will be neutered whilst in foster (vet advisory)

Hendricks is a lovely, playful and affectionate boy who loves nothing more than to be close to his family. He can be anxious about being left, and will not suit a foster (or adoptive) home where he will be left regularly or for more than an hour or two (and only then once he has had a few weeks to settle) and this, of course, is why he is being rehomed. He is currently being looked after during the day in a household with another dog and all is fine (the dogs are fed separately to avoid any potential guarding issues, which is something we always insist on for our foster dogs) although he can be anxious/reactive about some dogs approaching him when he’s on lead. Any dogs in the household must be neutered or spayed, and veterinary evidence will be required. If you are hoping that foster may lead to adoption, you will need to be confident that your current work/family commitments are unlikely to undergo any changes which will result in Hendricks being left alone for more than 2 or 3 hours. Hendricks is a really good boy who requires a bit of training, ie lead training (note that we require our fosterers and adopters to employ only positive, scientifically proven, reward based training techniques) Hendricks is not cat tested.

Although Hendricks is good with adults and children he meets, he has only lived in an adult-only home and we feel it would be best for him if any children are secondary school aged or above, and sensible and respectful around dogs (children should always be supervised around any dog)

TO BE CONSIDERED TO FOSTER HENDRICKS (PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE CRITERIA ARE NOT NEGOTIABLE):

* Hendricks has never been left for more than an hour or so and this is the only reason his devastated owner is giving him up. He can be anxious when left, and there will need to be someone at home at all times initially unless you can take Hendricks with you. Should you hope to be considered to adopt Hendricks, he will not suit a family where he will be left until he feels settled, and then only for short periods of time and infrequently. Hendricks is never going to be happy being left frequently or for more than a couple of hours.

- Work from home is fine provided you have ample time throughout the day to ensure Hendricks continues to enjoy the walks he loves, as well as for play, training and other stimulating activities. Hendricks cannot be shut away in another room or a crate whilst you work, he will want to remain close by and if this is an issue for you, please do not apply.

* There will need to be direct access to a fully secure private garden

* Children over 11 years old are fine, provided they are sensible and respectful around dogs (children must be supervised around dogs)

* Hendricks can be anxious/reactive when dogs approach when he is on lead. We would consider a foster home with another well matched, non-aggressive/non-guarding dog (neutered/spayed – veterinary evidence will be required) although he would also be fine as an only dog, provided he is given ample opportunity to meet and socialise with familiar dogs (foster dogs must be kept on lead/a long lead unless in a fully secure area such as a dog safe field) Note that a pre-foster meet up and walk will be required to ensure the dogs get on, so please consider this before submitting an application for Hendricks.

* Hendricks is not cat tested. Introductions will need to be carefully managed.

- Training - including lead walking/recall training - will be ongoing. Hendricks responds well to positive training techniques. Doodles are sensitive dogs and we do not permit the use of punitive, aversive training techniques on our dogs.

* Experienced dog owners with a calm, kind, positive approach to training/dog ownership.

* Hendricks LOVES his walks! He can initially be anxious about meeting other dogs when he is on lead, but off lead (in a secure area whilst in foster) he absolutely loves playing with other dogs.

* You will need to be fit and active. If you hope that fostering Hendricks may lead to adoption, please consider that he is a young dog and he could live to around 15 years of age.

* You should have no holidays planned for the next 6 weeks or so, unless you can take Hendricks with you.

* All family members must be in agreement with fostering Hendricks. You must be in a position to foster Hendricks without delay. Hendricks is near Durham and all resident family members (and any dog(s)) will be required to travel to meet him prior to foster.

Those who know these dogs will know that doodles are highly sensitive dogs which can easily be sent into a “tail spin” if subtle signs of anxiety are missed and if resultant “behaviours” are mishandled. We expect our fosterers and adopters to employ positive, reward based training techniques which these dogs respond well to. We categorically do not support and will not tolerate the use of aversive, punitive “training techniques”.

Doodle Rescue is run by a small team of volunteers. We typically receive in excess of 100 applications for available dogs and we regret that we are unable to respond to unsuccessful applicants individually. If your application has been shortlisted to the next stage of our vetting process, or if we require additional information to enable us to fully consider your application, one of our volunteer admin will contact you via Facebook Messenger, by email or by phone/SMS within 3 days of your adoption application form submission. If you do not hear from us within this time frame, regrettably your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion. We endeavour to provide sufficient information in each dog’s adoption bio to give an overview of our assessment of the dog and the required criteria to be considered to adopt the dog, to enable interested parties to assess suitability before submitting an adoption application. We regret that at this early stage of our vetting processes it is not possible for our volunteer admins to respond to requests for further information on a dog available for adoption since – with limited resources and time - we must prioritise finding the right home for the dog and we are grateful for your understanding in this matter. We regret that we are unable to enter into any correspondence with unsuccessful applicants or with those who are considering submitting an application but who have not yet done so. Note: due to GDPR we do not retain unsuccessful applications on our system and a new application will need to be submitted for any other available dogs. Please be aware that our vetting processes are thorough to ensure the welfare of the dogs and by submitting an application you are agreeing to cooperate with our processes. Note: due to GDPR we do not retain unsuccessful applications on our system and a new application will need to be submitted for any other available dog.

EVERY DOG IN OUR CARE IS CAREFULLY ASSESSED AND OUR ASSESSMENTS FORM THE BASIS OF THE CRITERIA TO BE CONSIDERED TO FOSTER OR ADOPT THEM. OUR PRIORITY IS THE WELFARE OF THE DOGS AND WE REGRET THAT THE STATED CRITERIA ARE NOT OPEN TO NEGOTIATION.
