SIMBA, 23 MONTH OLD MALE GOLDENDOODLE

LOCATION: MANCHESTER

FOSTER-TO-ADOPT - Fosterers will have the option of adopting following a period in foster, provided all parties are in agreement (an adoption fee will be applicable)

Simba is
a 23 month old male goldendoodle (23kg) currently unneutered (we will seek vet advice re neutering whilst he is in foster). He is a lovely, happy bouncy boy, although he can be anxious. Simba will bark and try to move away from people he doesn’t know or whom he is uncertain of, although with the right approach he recovers quickly and may then want to say hello. Simba will need calm, kind, experienced fosterers to help him overcome his anxieties around people he does not feel comfortable with. It is important that Simba is not forced into situations that he is not comfortable with and his fosterers will need to be prepared to work at his pace, with our guidance and support.

Simba needs calm and kind fosterers who will be prepared to work closely with us on addressing his anxieties using positive training techniques. There will need to be someone at home much of the time, a quiet home with not too many visitors. Simba was very anxious about his previous family’s youngest child (fine with their 15yo) and he will need an adult only foster home or one where children/frequently visiting children are aged over 14 and sensible and respectful around Simba (children must always be supervised around dogs). Simba is fine with dogs he meets on walks, and we would consider a foster home with another confident, calm, well-matched, neutered/spayed dog. Simba is not cat tested and introductions to any resident cats will need to be carefully managed.

We provide full support and cover all agreed costs whilst our dogs are in foster.

TO BE CONSIDERED:

* Experienced, calm, kind dog owners with the time and willingness to work with us on addressing Simba’s anxieties

* There will need to be someone at home much of the time. Part time work from home is fine, as
long as Simba can settle in the room where you are working and will not be shut away in a different part of the house, and as long as you have ample time throughout the day for Simba’s needs for enrichment activities, satisfying walks, training and play

* Simba has not been cat tested. Introductions to any residential cats will need to be carefully managed

* Owner advised that Simba does get on with dogs he meets on walks, and we may consider a resident dog as long as they are neutered/spayed, well matched and non-aggressive/non-guarding, subject to successful pre-foster introductions

* Children or frequently visiting children aged over 14yo and sensible and respectful of Simba’s need for calm and space.

* Simba will not cope in a busy, noisy household with frequent visitors. He needs a calm foster home with few visitors where his needs can be prioritised, and where his fosterers will advocate for him with other people

* You should have no holidays booked for the next few weeks (longer if you hope to adopt Simba)
unless you can take Simba with you

* All resident family members must be in agreement with fostering Simba and will be required to meet him before any decision is made.

* You must be in a position to foster Simba without delay.

If you meet the criteria (which are not negotiable) and would like to be consider to foster Simba, hopefully leading to adoption following assessment (note that an adoption fee of £380.00 will apply) please complete the application form.

Those who know these dogs will know that doodles are highly sensitive dogs which can easily be sent into a “tail spin” if subtle signs of anxiety are missed and if resultant “behaviours” are mishandled. We expect our fosterers and adopters to employ positive, reward based training techniques which these dogs respond well to. We categorically do not support the use of aversive, punitive “training techniques”
