WOOLEY, NEUTERED MALE POODLE/WHEATEN CROSS
LOCATION: BRIGHTON
FOR ADOPTION
Blue poodle/wheaten terrier Wooley, 8yo, approx 28 - 30kg
Location: Brighton
Wooley is such a good boy. He’s always bursting with love and affection for anyone he meets. Sadly, Wooley’s lovely owner and companion of 8 years recently passed away in traumatic circumstances for Wooley. His neighbours, who used to take him for walks, have taken him in as foster parents. He’s been given lots of love and snuggles and is now ready to find his new forever home. Wooley is neutered, vet checked, is up to date with vaccinations and has no known health issues. He is fed Harrington’s Grain Free Salmon Superfood (a mix of wet and dry).
Wooley is a sweet, sensitive, gentle giant. He loves snuggles, rubs under his chin and planting lots of kisses on his human’s face. He likes to put his paw on you to show affection. He loves to play with his toys, and his terrier side comes out when he tries to rip them to shreds and plays tug of war with his humans! He’s very calm and his fosterers tell us that is just lovely to have around. He sometimes gets excited with new people and jumps (vertically, on all 4 paws!) to give them a kiss on their face. He loves being around people and making new human friends. He doesn’t love being brushed, washed or dried but he is very patient with it, does not growl or show any irritation, just seems a bit fed up.
Wooley is very well trained and walks well on the lead (unless he knows he’s going to the dog park or has seen a fox or cat!) He loves being off the lead finding all the smells and zooming around (note that Wooley should be kept on lead until you are 100% confident of his recall) His lovely fosterers tell us that he’s very smart and he seems very in tune to his humans’ feelings. His owner told her neighbours that sometimes he’d “act up”, for example when she had to leave him at home alone when she had appointments (which he was not accustomed to as she was almost always at home). She said he’d then act up a bit, he’d be grouchier with other dogs and steal their balls in the park and would be very reluctant to give them back to their doggy owners! He seems mostly good with other dogs he meets on walks (he likes them chasing him!), although sometimes he can seem a bit jumpy when unknown dogs approach him from behind and sniff at him, and if they are really persistent in bothering him, he will tell them off and put them in their place as most dogs would. Wooley will need confident, experienced owners who are adept at reading the room (or the park!) to anticipate and deflect “incursions” from over exuberant or potentially aggressive dogs on walks and who will advocate for Wooley – he is an older gentleman, after all, and older dogs do not welcome other dogs jumping all over them! Wooley’s owner was gentle and kind (as are his fosterers). He will not cope with being told off or disciplined, and neither is this necessary. He responds well to calmness and positive training techniques.
Wooley is not used to being left and he does have some separation anxiety, which has been exacerbated by his recent very traumatic experience. He will not suit a home where he will be left frequently or for more than an hour or two. Best of all, he would love a family who take him everywhere with them! Wooley has been through a very traumatic experience and has lost his entire world. Wooley is a very special boy and he needs and deserves to be placed firmly at the centre of his new family, and he deserves all the love in the world.
TO BE CONSIDERED TO ADOPT WOOLEY
* Wooley has separation anxiety. There will need to be someone at home most of the time. Work from home is fine, as long as this will not change and as long as you have sufficient time throughout the day for Wooley’s needs for satisfying walks and play to be met, and provided Wooley will not be shut away in another part of the house whilst you are working.
* Experienced, confident owners who are prepared to advocate for Wooley when other dogs are paying him unwanted attention on walks.
* Wooley gets on well with most other dogs and he could potentially live with another well matched dog of a similar age and temperament (subject to introductions)
* Wooley has not lived with children. As he is an older dog, we feel he would do best in a calm household. Any children/visiting children should be calm and mature enough to know to give him quite time and space (children should be supervised around dogs)
* Wooley will try to chase cats.
* Wooley may be 8yo, but his energy levels are those of a much younger dog! You will need to be fit and active.
* Wooley is VERY affectionate – he loves being close to you and cuddling up, and he loves kissing his favourite humans (and he will jump vertically off the floor to plant a kiss on your face!) If Wooley’s desire to be close and cuddle up or his joyful jumping up and enthusiastic kisses are a problem for you, please don’t apply for him!
* All family members must be in agreement with adopting Wooley and will need to travel to Brighton for a pre-adoption meet up and walk.
* You must be in a position to proceed with adoption without delay.
* You should have no holidays booked for the next 3 months, unless you can take Wooley with you.
* There will need to be direct access to a private, secure garden.
