18 MONTH OLD FEMALE COCKAPOO, MILLIE

LOCATION: RENFREW

Millie is a proper DIVA! She loves her spa days at the groomers and loves a fuss from her devoted owner, but only when SHE chooses to grace her with her divine presence 😅 Otherwise, she much prefers her own space and to be left alone when she's grabbing some beauty sleep, thank you very much! She currently lives with another cockapoo, a very annoying younger brother who she tolerates at best, but he is in no doubt that Millie is Queen Bee and Must Be Obeyed (poor boy!) Millie is very clear about what she likes and doesn't like, and she will growl at her furry brother if he dares to take any liberties with HER food bowl or HER space (poor boy😁!) Truth be told, she would much prefer to be an only child and we are looking for a foster home where her wish will be granted and she will be the only dog. Millie dislikes being disturbed when resting/sleeping. She sensibly takes herself off to another room when she wants to have a kip, but her lovely mum prefers that she sleeps in her bedroom, so will pick her up to carry her to bed, at which point Millie will growl at her mum to tell her she's perfectly happy where she is, thank you very much. Millie loses this battle though and she sleeps on her mum's bed with her furry brother.

NOTE: Fosterers MUST respect Millie's communication (the growls) and leave her alone when she's resting/sleeping, or when she otherwise wants her own space, and refrain from picking her up (she hates this!) or fussing her unless she asks for a fuss. Millie resource guards her food bowl and her bowl should be placed in an area where she can eat without fear of being disturbed. Millie is extremely good at clearly communicating when she is unhappy with something, and has been very tolerant when her warning signals (the growls) have not been understood. Fortunately, her lovely mum is equally clear about Millie's dislikes, which we will be asking her fosterers to respect and avoid. Millie has never snapped or bitten and we never want her to feel that she has to do so! Support will be provided. We cover all costs associated with the care of our foster dogs. Millie is being surrendered because of a change in circumstances which mean she is being left for long hours whilst her owner, who loves her very much, is at work.

CRITERIA TO FOSTER MILLIE (with a view to adopt)

- Experienced owners who can recognise, respect and act on a dog's communication

- The downside of being small and cute is that strangers can't resist trying to stroke you. You must be confident to tell others to "BACK OFF!" and to respect Millie's space

- A dog and cat free home (Millie is not cat tested) - Given the reason for Millie's surrender, there should be someone at home much of the time (work from home is fine, provided there is ample time throughout the day for Millie's needs to be met

- Any children over 14yo and sensible and respectful around dogs (note that children/visiting children should always be supervised around dogs) who will understand to give Millie her space, who won't fuss or cuddle her when she doesn't want it and will allow her to rest/sleep undisturbed

- Millie is a young dog who loves her walks, and she will require a fit and active foster/adoptive family

- This is a foster placement (initially at least) and fosterers are required to work closely with us and to follow our guidance and advice. Note that we only permit the use of positive, modern training techniques

- Millie will be spayed whilst in foster

- No holidays/breaks away planned for the next few months, unless you can take Millie with you (we don't permit the delegation of our dogs' care to third parties)

Millie's owner is unable to travel far and a pre-foster meet up and walk (with all resident family members) will be required. Please therefore factor in your ability to travel to Renfrew in the next couple of weeks

If you meet the criteria (which are not negotiable) and would like to be consider to foster lovely Millie, hopefully leading to adoption following assessment (note that an adoption fee of £380.00 will apply) please complete the application form.

Those who know these dogs will know that doodles are highly sensitive dogs which can easily be sent into a “tail spin” if subtle signs of anxiety are missed and if resultant “behaviours” are mishandled. We expect our fosterers and adopters to employ positive, reward based training techniques which these dogs respond well to. We categorically do not support the use of aversive, punitive “training techniques”
